Trends and Advances in Machine Learning and Automated Reasoning for Intelligent Robots and Systems

Workshop in conjunction with the 2020 IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems

The workshop intends to bring together researchers from different sub-fields of artificial intelligence to discuss how best to address challenges in machine learning and automated reasoning for intelligent robots and systems. Invited expert speakers will present the recent machine-learning methods but also knowledge representation and reasoning approaches, hybrid frameworks combining machine learning and automated reasoning, decision theories and systems, and their applications for robotic and intelligent systems. This workshop will also address important topics related to performance evaluation of artificial intelligence systems and initiatives on standards of knowledge representation and reasoning in robotics and on ethics of intelligent robots and systems.

The specific issues of how to improve robot intelligence and provide a more general vision of the research in the covered topics than what is typically feasible in a regular contribution. This is why this workshop will mostly consist in invited talks from established members of the community, complemented by interactive sessions for younger researchers. Finally, the topics covered in this workshop are often scattered among various sessions such as machine learning, knowledge representation and reasoning, augmented artificial intelligence, performance evaluation of AI systems and Initiatives on standards of knowledge representation

This workshop is endorsed by the following IEEE RAS Technical Committees:

The solicited papers address, but are not limited to, the following topics:

  • Machine learning methods
  • Deep learning architectures
  • Ontologies, semantic web and knowledge graphs
  • Commonsense reasoning
  • Integrating machine learning and logical reasoning
  • Bridging reasoning and probabilistic planning
  • Context awareness and preference in machine learning and reasoning
  • Augmented artificial intelligence,
  • Explainable AI (XAI),
  • Ethical and trustworthy AI
  • Performance evaluation of AI
  • Applications of AI based Robotics

We actively encourage young researchers, PhD and Master students to submit short papers (2-4 pages) presenting preliminary results, ongoing works and demos.

Papers should be in PDF format and prepared using the standard IEEE-RAS ROS template. The papers will be peer reviewed and acceptance will be based on the quality of the contribution, originality and relevance to the workshop's topics of interest. The accepted papers will be made available on the workshop's website and presented during the interactive sessions.

Authors are invited to submit an abstract before the final submission of their contribution through **this link**.
